Privacy Policy

This policy explains what personal data Samling collects, why, and the choices you have. We keep it short and in plain English.

1. Who we are

Samling (“we”, “us”) is the data controller for the personal data described in this policy.

If you have any question about this policy or how we handle your data, email us at support@samling.ai.

2. What this policy covers

This policy applies to the Samling website and the Samling mobile app for iPhone and Android (together, the “Service”).

Samling gathers pieces from independent boutiques into one feed. When you follow a link to a boutique’s own website, that website is run by the boutique and governed by its own privacy policy. We do not control what a boutique collects once you leave the Service.

3. Information we collect

Information you give us. When you create an account we ask for an email address and, optionally, a name. As you use the app we store the pieces you save, the boutiques you follow, and any preferences you set. If you contact us, we keep the message and your contact details.

Information collected automatically. When you use the Service we receive technical data such as your device type, operating system, app version, language, approximate location derived from your IP address, the pages or screens you view, and crash reports. On the website this also includes standard server logs.

Information from third parties. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive the account details you agree to share, such as your email address. We do not buy personal data from data brokers.

4. How we use your information

We use personal data only where we have a lawful basis to do so:

  • To provide the Service (performance of a contract): creating and securing your account, syncing your saves and follows across devices, and showing you the feed.
  • To improve the Service (legitimate interests): understanding which features are used, fixing bugs, and preventing abuse. Where we can, we do this with aggregated or de-identified data.
  • To communicate with you (contract or legitimate interests): answering support requests and sending essential notices about your account or changes to the Service.
  • To send marketing (consent): only if you opt in. You can opt out at any time from the settings screen or the link in any email.
  • To comply with the law (legal obligation): responding to lawful requests and keeping records we are required to keep.

We do not sell your personal data and we do not use it for automated decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.

5. Cookies and local storage

The website uses only strictly necessary storage: your browser may keep small amounts of data locally so the site works correctly between visits. We do not set advertising or cross-site tracking cookies on the website.

The app stores your session and preferences on your device. If we add optional analytics in future we will ask for your consent first and update this policy.

6. Who we share information with

We share personal data only with:

  • Boutiques you visit. When you tap through to a boutique, your browser or device connects to their website directly. They may see standard information such as your IP address and that you arrived from Samling. We do not pass them your account details.
  • Service providers who host and support the Service, such as cloud hosting (Google Cloud, in the United Kingdom), email delivery, and crash reporting. They act on our instructions under written contracts.
  • App stores. Apple and Google process your download and any in-app purchase under their own policies.
  • Authorities or advisers where the law requires it, to enforce our terms, or to protect the rights, property or safety of Samling, our users or others.
  • A buyer or successor if Samling is involved in a merger, acquisition or sale of assets. We will tell you before your data becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

7. International transfers

We store data in the United Kingdom. Some of our service providers may process data in other countries, including the United States. Where that happens we rely on safeguards recognised under UK data protection law, such as adequacy regulations or the International Data Transfer Agreement, so that your data stays protected.

8. How long we keep information

We keep your account data for as long as you have an account. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymise your personal data within 30 days, except where we need to keep it longer to meet a legal obligation, resolve a dispute or enforce our agreements.

Technical logs are kept for up to 90 days. Support conversations are kept for up to two years so we can refer back to them if you contact us again.

9. Your rights

Under UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 you have the right to:

  • access the personal data we hold about you;
  • ask us to correct data that is inaccurate or incomplete;
  • ask us to delete your data;
  • restrict or object to how we process your data;
  • receive a copy of your data in a portable format;
  • withdraw consent at any time where we rely on it;
  • complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk. We would appreciate the chance to address your concern first.

You can delete your account and its data from the settings screen in the app. For any other request, email support@samling.ai. We will respond within one month and may ask you to verify your identity first.

10. Children

The Service is not directed at children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us at support@samling.ai and we will delete it.

11. Security

We protect your data with measures appropriate to its sensitivity, including encryption in transit, access controls, and regular review of who can reach production systems. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we will notify you and the regulator of any breach where the law requires it.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it was last changed. If a change materially affects how we use your data, we will tell you through the app or by email before it takes effect.
